Portrait of Maj. Gen. Vikram Dev Dogra

The Guest · Defence · Season 07

Maj. Gen. Vikram Dev Dogra.

Major General (Retd.), Indian Army · AVSM

Vikram Dev Dogra spent forty years in the Indian Army, commanding The Poona Horse, an armoured brigade on the western front, and an infantry division within a strike corps. He passed out of the Indian Military Academy with both the Sword of Honour and the President's Gold Medal, saw combat in Jammu and Kashmir, and served as a United Nations military observer in Angola. He now advises founders and defence-technology teams on where AI genuinely changes a battlefield, from intelligence and counter-drone systems to communications security and logistics, and where it does not: the commander's decision, which he argues AI can only ever inform. In 2018, at fifty-eight, he became the first serving Indian Army officer to finish an Ironman triathlon; he has since finished three, and speaks on leadership, endurance and decision-making under pressure.
